From several sources comes interesting information in reference to J.
Menzies, (1808-1879). From 1833 to 1859 he was a bookseller, stationer, and print seller in Edinburgh at the above address. From 1859 to 1867, he is listed as a wholesale bookseller on Hanover Street. Prior to opening his own business, he was apprenticed to an Edinburgh bookseller and then worked for a London publisher, Charles Tilt. John Menzies returned to Edinburgh when his father passed away leaving him to provide for his two sisters and stepmother.
Information found in reference to the lithographer, J. Gellatly, is that he was an engraver, draftsman, and publisher during the 1830's through the 1850's... J. Gellatly may be most well known for several famous mid 19th century maps of Scotland.
